Amidst reports of a concerning trend affecting women in New York City, echoes of random assaults are now being heard in the streets of Chicago.
Several women have come forward, recounting disturbing incidents where they were physically attacked while simply going about their daily routines. One recent victim shared her experience of being assaulted while walking near the bustling intersection of State Street and Chicago Avenue on the Near North Side last Saturday evening.
Despite the area’s bustling activity, with a busy Red Line stop beneath it, inquiries made by CBS 2 to nearby establishments yielded no eyewitness accounts of the assault.

However, one courageous individual did witness the attack unfold and took to social media to spread awareness.
In New York City, a string of unprovoked assaults targeting women has sparked alarm in recent weeks. Within just three days, multiple women were reported to have been punched in the head in various Manhattan districts, including Chinatown, the West Village, Chelsea, and Midtown, as detailed by CBS New York.
These attacks, occurring in broad daylight and seemingly without motive, have left victims with visible injuries such as black eyes and swelling.
One particularly harrowing account came from Halley Kate, whose viral TikTok video documented her assault in New York City. Kate’s video, along with similar testimonies from other women, has shed light on the severity of the situation.
Despite the arrest of a suspect in one of the assaults, the attacks have persisted, prompting speculation that multiple perpetrators may be involved.
Now, in Chicago, another woman has stepped forward, claiming to have witnessed a similar assault in the Gold Coast/River North area. In a TikTok video, Emily Ruth recounted the terrifying ordeal of a woman who had been punched in the face by a man while walking her dog.
Chicago police confirmed the incident, reporting that a 52-year-old woman was indeed assaulted near State Street and Chicago Avenue. The assailant fled the scene after throwing the victim’s belongings across the street.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but Emily Ruth’s video serves as a stark reminder for all to remain vigilant and prioritize personal safety.
As investigations continue, and with no arrests made thus far, the incidents in both New York and Chicago serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of community awareness and proactive measures to ensure the safety of all individuals.
