Investigation Launched into Alleged Sexual Abuse and Pregnancy of Resident at Geneva Care Facility

Authorities in Kane County are currently probing disturbing allegations surrounding a pregnancy and suspected sexual abuse at a care facility tailored for disabled adults, officials have confirmed.

The revelation emerged from the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, where a female resident of two decades was recently discovered to be pregnant. She subsequently gave birth after receiving medical attention at Delnor Hospital.

The non-profit facility is actively collaborating with law enforcement in their investigation. Given the victim’s non-verbal condition and reliance on assistance for mobility, the pregnancy went unnoticed until it reached an advanced stage. Marklund has acknowledged the possibility that her disability may have obscured typical signs of pregnancy.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead in examining the sexual abuse allegations, particularly considering the victim’s inability to provide consent. Access to residents is rigorously regulated and monitored to ensure their safety and well-being.

Following initial inquiries, three male staff members have been promptly placed on administrative leave, as Marklund continues to extend full cooperation to county detectives and public health officials. Current and former employees alike are actively participating in DNA testing and interviews.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has also weighed in on the matter, affirming their commitment to thoroughly investigating the allegations and closely overseeing operations at the facility.
